MY 2025 Knitting Wishlist

Create more than you consume – I repeat to myself at the start of every year.

But after work, and cooking dinner, and cleaning up, and running errands, and walking my pup - all I have the energy for is doomscrolling with a TV show playing in the background. Two to three hours easily zips past with my current algorithm pushing 20-second videos to my eyeballs and before I know it, it’s time to sleep and do the same thing the next day.

Back in January, I was determined, to reduce this habit. I’ve tried reading, drawing, podcasts - but nothing quite hit the spot. Exceepptt for knitting.

I found myself getting lost in a fiber arts project. On my babymoon, I spent the majority of the day making a baby sweater (pictured above) next to the pool, or waiting for our table, or right before bed.

Just like doomscrolling, two to three hours easily pass by with my knitting needles (though I still have a TV show playing in the background). BUT! Unlike doomscrolling, knitting feels almost meditative versus catatonic. My mind feels clearer, my body is calmer. It was the antidote I was looking for.

I desperately want to continue this habit of creating well into December. So, inspired by my friend Marika, I’m putting together my Fiber Arts 2025 Wishlist—a list I can return to whenever I feel uninspired or unsure of what to make next.

I have an embarrassing amount of baskets filled with unused yarn - and I intend to use it all in one epic scrap yarn scarf with this pattern. I altered the pattern slightly by switching to a double stockinette stitch and using a whole lot more colors. More photos to come soon!

2. Nordic Mix Sweater

Pattern by Laura Dalagaard

Is 2025 the year I tackle this pattern?? It’s so intimidating for me as someone who has 1) never done an adult sweater and 2) tried complex colorwork. Part of me wants to do a classic red and white color combo - but I think it would be interesting to try something outside of my comfort zone, like baby pink and brown, or olive and red.

I’m a sucker for a hat. Especially if it’s in a shape I don’t see often. I’m not a 100% sure I can pull this off, buuuut it looks easy to make and I can see it as a great confident-booster/palate-cleanser to work on in between complex projects. It also comes in a kid size so I can make one for me and baby.

4. Stripey Mittens

Pattern by Rowsknitwear

I’m not a mitten-girlie, but I will easily be converted if I made these. I think you can catch on that graphic patterns are a current hyper-fixation.

5. Stripey Sweater

Pattern by Rowsknitwear

From the same pattern maker as the mittens. I looove the pattern and drape on this sweater. Like the other items, I am a bit stumped on what colors I would use for this project.

6. Cardigan (for me and baby)

Pattern by Petiteknit

Okay, but can you just imagine the matching cardigans? I am so happy Petiteknit offers this pattern in child size. My dream would be to knit this in red with cream buttons.

6. Hoodie Scarf

Pattern by Petiteknit

Currently working on this now too! I’m a little sad that I’m starting it in Spring because I would love to have worn this with my Fall and Winter outfits.

Last but not least! I’ve been scouring high and low for this type of beanie silhouette: round, chunky, with a wide-brim. That being said, I’ve been burned in the past working with boucle. It was so difficult to see my stitches and if I made a mistake, the yarn would tangle as I tried to undo it. If I do dip into this pattern, I might opt for a classic yarn + mohair combo.

And there it is! My 2025 Knitting Wish List. I have a total separate list for sewing, crocheting, and metalsmithing - but at this exact moment, I’ve truly just been fixated with knitting. A part of me daydreams of knitting something darling next to my future daughter, and then someday teaching her how to make her own clothes. I’m looking forward to creating matching pieces for us and gaining more confidence with complex techniques. Until then, you’ll probably find me with yarn and needles stuffed in my purse.
